Wayne Shorter’s opera Iphigenia made me reflect on my experience working with him while he made his album High Life, the first time an orchestra played and recorded his music. So many memories started to come up for me, almost like watching an old home movie. I’ve been quiet about my experiences with Wayne for a long time. I chose not to participate in Michelle Mercer’s book Footprints for two main reasons. I felt like if I was mentioned in the book, people would never stop asking me about Wayne. The other reason being that I felt like I would never get the healing and closure I wanted and needed with the TWA plane crash that took the lives of my friend Ana Maria Shorter, their niece, and over 200 more people. I appreciated everyone respecting my wishes when Michelle worked on the book, and I explained this to her.
